Legacy RPG to object Java

www.jcmigrations.com Comptramatics is partnering with J&C Migrations to provide legacy RPG to Java transformations. By combining J&C Migrations' JCMRPG TM and Comptramatics' Legacy eTrans-Formation Service (LeTSTM) technologies, fast, efficient, and cost effective legacy RPG to Java transformations result.

While most of the reasons for transforming legacy Cobol to Java also apply to RPG transformations, the following reasons specifically apply to legacy RPG to Java:

  • RPG is an aging, proprietary computer language with expensive licensing fees.
  • New internet related technologies are being developed for Java while even existing internet technologies are difficult and expensive to use with RPG.
  • New Java development and maintenance technologies far exceed, in terms of ease of use and cost and time savings, anything available in the RPG world.
  • It is difficult to run RPG applications on desktop computers. RPG compilers for desktops are very expensive and often have per user licensing fees. Java runs on almost every computer currently made and has no licensing fees.
  • If you have both RPG and Cobol you can transform both to Java and avoid paying for two maintenance and support staffs.
  • RPG (having been initially designed as a Report Program Generation language) does not scale well for very large scale projects. J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) is designed for very large scale projects.
